Die überwiegende Mehrheit, über 80% der Kenianischen Bevölkerung, sind Christen. Davon sind die Hälfte Protestanten, weitere 25% Anglikaner, 23% Katholiken und ca. 2% Orthodoxe. 11% der Einwohner Kenias gehören dem Islam an und nur noch ungefähr 1,6% gehören traditionellen, afrikanischen Religionen an.
Religion hat in vielen Bevölkerungsgruppen in Kenia einen hohen Stellenwert, wodurch diese auch starken Einfluss auf die Kultur und Festlichkeiten nimmt. So gibt es in Kenia eine ausgeprägte, religiöse Chormusikszene. Der Gesang stellt in Kenia ein wichtiges Mittel zur Überlieferung aktueller und vergangener Geschehnisse sowie Legenden dar. Gleichzeitig ist das Tanzen bedeutsam und gehört im Alltag dazu. Insbesondere in Kenias Hauptstadt Nairobi werden häufig nationale und internationale Musik- und Tanzshows aufgeführt.
Nairobi ist ebenso das Zentrum der Kunst in Kenia und der Treffpunk Kenianischer Künstler. Auch im dort ansässigen Goethe Institut finden regelmäßige Ausstellungen Nationaler Künstler statt. Heutzutage sehr gefragt sind afrikanische Holzfiguren und Masken, die mittels traditioneller Schnitzmethoden angefertigt werden. Mit diesen Kunstwerken soll das Innere der Menschen offenbart werden. Des Weiteren sind in der kenianischen Kultur kunstvolle Körperbemalungen von hoher Bedeutung.

The overwhelming majority, over 80% of the Kenyan population, are Christians. Of these, half are Protestants, another 25% Anglicans, 23% Catholics and about 2% Orthodox. 11% of Kenya's inhabitants are members of the Islam and only about 1.6% belong to traditional African religions.
Religion has a high value in many population groups in Kenya and a strong influence on the culture and festivities. For example, Kenya has a distinct religious choral music scene. In Kenya, singing is an important way of passing on current/past events and legends. At the same time, dancing is important and part of everyday life. Especially in Kenya's capital Nairobi, national and international music and dance shows are often performed.
Nairobi is also the center of arts in Kenya and the meeting place of Kenyan artists. In the Goethe Institute in Nairobi regular exhibitions of national artists take place. Nowadays, African wooden figures and masks, made with methods of traditional Kenyan carving, are in great demand. With these works of art, the interior of the people should often be revealed. Furthermore, artistic body painting is of great importance in Kenyan culture.
