Nachdem wir euch vor zwei Wochen einen kleinen Überblick über das Land Kenia gaben, möchten wir euch heute die Politik und Verwaltung Kenias vorstellen.
Kenia erlangte nach langer Kolonialgeschichte im Dezember 1963 die Unabhängigkeit von Großbritannien. Nach Verabschiedung der neuen Verfassung im Jahre 2010 gilt Kenia als eine Präsidialrepublik in welcher der Präsident – ähnlich wie z.B. in den USA – die Macht über die Regierung sowie die Armee besitzt. Der derzeitige Präsident Uhuru Kenyatta, der älteste Sohn des ersten Präsidenten Jomo Kenyatta, ist seit etwa sieben Jahren im Amt.
Das Land ist in 47 halbautonome Counties geteilt, die jeweils von einem Gouverneur regiert werden. Innerhalb Ostafrikas nahm Kenia eine zentrale Rolle bei der Schaffung einer gemeinsamen politischen Union (East African Community), die sich an der europäischen Union orientiert, ein. Kenia stellt zudem einen zentralen Stabilisator für die gesamte Region dar und unterstützte Nachbarländer beispielsweise bei der Aufnahme von Geflüchteten oder der Bekämpfung von Terrororganisationen. Allerdings kommt es auch innerhalb des Landes immer wieder zu Spannungen zwischen einzelnen Volksgruppen, Korruptionsskandalen und der Verletzung von Menschenrechten.

After we gave you a short overview of the country Kenya two weeks ago, we would like to introduce you today to the politics and administration of Kenya.
After a long colonial history Kenya gained independence from Great Britain in December 1963. After the adoption of the new constitution in 2010, Kenya is considered a presidential republic in which the president - similar to e.g. the USA - has power over the government and the army. The current president Uhuru Kenyatta, the oldest son of the first president Jomo Kenyatta, has been in office for about seven years. The country is divided into 47 semi-autonomous counties, each governed by a governor.
Within East Africa, Kenya plays a central role in the creation of a common political union (East African Community) which is inspired by the European Union. Kenya is a central stabilizer for the entire region and supports neighboring countries for example in taking in refugees or fighting terrorist organizations. However, tensions between individual ethnic groups, corruption scandals and violations of human rights also occur repeatedly within the country.
