Kenia zählt mit einer Einwohnerzahl von 51.393.000 zu einem der größten Länder Ostafrikas. Mit einem Human Development Index (HDI) von 0.579 belegt Kenia den derzeit 147. Rang. Auch wenn Kenia im Vergleich zu den umliegenden Ländern Somalia, Südsudan, Äthiopien und Uganda eine höhere Platzierung aufweist, sind immer noch mehr als 38,7% von schwerer Armut betroffen. Dennoch gilt Kenia als eine treibende Wirtschaftskraft Ostafrikas. Das Land ist von seinen vielen unterschiedlichen Facetten gekennzeichnet. Die Bevölkerung Kenias wird in 42 Volksstämme, zumeist mit eigenen Kulturen und Sprachen, unterteilt. Die Menschen in Kenia sind bekannt für ihre Gastfreundlichkeit und Offenheit. Die Vielfalt des Landes lässt sich jedoch nicht nur bei den Menschen selbst, sondern auch in der Landschaft wiederfinden. Während das Land an der Küste des indischen Ozeans paradiesische, weiße Sandstrände bietet, so können in den Naturparks eine der artenreichsten Tierwelten bestaunt werden. Andererseits verkörpern Nairobi und Mombasa mit ihren großen Märkten, den geschäftigen Innenstädten, aber auch mit einer großen Kultur- und Kunstszene das Bild einer modernen afrikanischen Großstadt.

So far we have told you a lot about our work and the life at the Heart Children's Home in our posts. But today we would like to introduce the country Kenya to you. With a population of 51,393,000 Kenya is one of the largest countries in East Africa. With a Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.579, Kenya currently ranks 147th. Even though Kenya ranks higher than the surrounding countries of Somalia, Southern Sudan, Ethiopia and Uganda, more than 38.7% are still affected by severe poverty. Nevertheless, Kenya is considered a driving economic force in East Africa. The country is characterized by its many different facets. The population of Kenya is divided into 42 tribes, mostly with their own cultures and languages. The people of Kenya are known for their hospitality and openness. However, the diversity of the country can be found not only in the people themselves, but also in the landscape. While the country offers heavenly, white beaches along the coast of the Indian Ocean, one of the most species-rich animal worlds can be marveled at in the nature parks. On the other hand, Nairobi and Mombasa embody the image of a modern African metropolis with their large markets, bustling inner cities, but also with a large cultural and art scene.
